Population growth in debtor redeveloping nations is making them hostage to the northern industrialized richer countries. The erroneous notion that population growth impacts the environment negatively is the root of the problem. Although the lifestyles of the rich north consumes a disproportionate amount of the earth’s resources, it is the poor southern nations who are forced to make adjustments to their policies in order to pay debts to the north. Their natural resources are drained off as part of the debt repayment program.
