The Bangladesh Fertility Decline: An Interpretation
Author(s)Caldwell, John C.; Huda, Barkat E.; Caldwell, Bruce; Pieris, Indrani; Caldwell, Pat
AbstractA study was conducted to refute the claim that efficient national planning program can realize major fertility declines even in economically-disadvantaged countries, such as Bangladesh. The claim was challenged based on the context that the country experienced major social and economic change, both real and perceived. Findings indicated that most Bangladeshis feel that individuals support a critical role in realizing new fertility aims, particularly carrying out decisions to have fewer children.
