Third World: Feast or Famine? Food Security in the New Millennium
Author(s)PANOS
AbstractUndernourishment is still a serious problem for one in seven of the world’s inhabitants, even though enough food is produced to feed the earth’s population. Food stocks are at very low levels, while world demand for food is forecast to rise by up to 50% in the next 15-25 years as populations increase and incomes rise. The world population could have almost doubled by 2035, and ensuring adequate food supplies will be an extremely serious problem. However, most leading organisations believe that progress is now being made to producing enough food.
