Abstract
Seven months after the outbreak of the Asian financial crisis, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) moved into the eye of the economic typhoon ravaging the region. The Fund’s high profile coincides with the spread of the deflationary and inflationary effects of the financial collapse on the real economy of the region, making the period potentially explosive.
