Abstract
Old institutional and neoclassical economists are at odds on the definition of social evolution in the context of Charles Darwin’s theory of evolution. The confusion over evolution appears to be a result of methodological variance. Thus, the subject of social evolution requires a re-evaluation that includes a number of issues such as the institutional view of social evolution versus the neoclassic view as expressed in new institutional economics.
