Marx, Dewey, and the Instrumentalist Approach to Political Economy
Author(s)Shuklian, Steve
AbstractKarl Marx and John Dewey have surprisingly similar concepts about the political economy despite their dissimilar backgrounds. It is possible to reconcile radical Marxism with the instrumental approach of Dewey. Both looked at the individual from a humanistic rather than a utilitarian viewpoint. Both saw capitalism as an obstacle to human growth and advocated the creation of institutions that would lead to participatory democracy.
