Consumed in Theory: Alternative Perspectives on the Economics of Consumption
Author(s)Ackerman, Frank
AbstractAlternative perspectives on the economics of consumption have been conceptualized to form a comprehensive new economic theory. An analysis of the three fundamental assumptions of the neoclassical theory of consumption, namely, asocial individualism, insatiability and commodity orientation, is required to understand the alternative theories. However, the development of an adequate theory of the relationship between marketed goods and consumer preferences remain to be a challenge in the area of the economics of consumption.
