A Rhetorical Conception of Practical Rationality
Author(s)Quinn, Kevin
AbstractD.N. McCloskey’s discussion of the rhetoric of economics underscores the challenge provided by rhetoric to a foundationalist, Cartesian picture of theoretical rationality. Nevertheless, her work does not clearly describe the potential challenge offered by rhetoric to rational choice theory. Although she employed rhetoric to demonstrate an alternative view of the knowing subject, McCloskey did not completely discuss the implications of rhetoric for the acting, doing subject.
