Better Indicators of Human Welfare
Author(s)Brown, Lester R.; Flavin, Christopher; Postel, Sandra
AbstractThis selection criticizes the use of the GNP as an index for long-term progress due to its inability to account for environmental degradation associated with natural resource extraction as well as pollution. More comprehensive measures are recommended, such as the Human Resource Index (HRI) and Index of Sustainable Economic Welfare (ISEW).
