The operationalizing of Gross National Happiness requires a decision on the concept of cardinal utility and the interpersonal comparison of happiness. Given the fact that various aspects of life affect happiness, the challenge remains how to integrate them all. Most of the happiness research has used reported subjective well-being as the proxy measure for utility. This paper discusses the measures of subjective Well-being in macroeconomics and the reliability of these measures in accurately reflecting the Gross National Happiness.
