Unnatural Markets
Author(s)Ackerman, Frank; Heinzerling, Lisa
AbstractIn this article, the authors address how economic analysis manages to slight both nature and the future. They discuss “existence value,” which is the value associated with knowing a special place, species or other resource, which exists even if one never visits or otherwise uses it in person. Lastly, they examine “option value,” which is the value of knowing one has the opportunity to use a resource in the future.
