This exposition is about the United States and the Third World after the Cold War. It briefly traces the history of the relations between the Western Countries- the centre of the world system- and the periphery. It then concludes with the thesis that the future of the world does not necessarily lie in the universalization of the model based on United States Capitalism and that there are limits to the United State’s hegemony over the world economy and to its military and political hegemony.
