The Enterprise for the Americas Initiative: A Second Generation of Debt-For-Nature Exchanges-With an Overview of Other Recent Exchange Initiatives
Author(s)Gibson, Eugene J.; Schreck, William J.
AbstractAmong the most pressing problems affecting the world’s developing countries, problems of worldwide importance, are the reduction of external debt burdens and the protection of natural resources. The author suggests that these two problems are closely related in that the enormous external debt of these countries makes them unable to take a long-term view of their natural resources. This article provides an overview of recent debt-for-nature exchanges with a detailed examination of the Enterprise for the Americas Initiative.
