The poverty of women is disproportionately high in comparison to men in developing and industrialized countries which is caused by a series of common factors across the world. Employers are reluctant to hire women for fear they will demand better benefits or be short-term employees because of having children. Women tend to have fewer educational opportunities and, in some countries, are even limited nutritionally in favor of men. Much of women’s work is not counted by surveys because it is through the informal sector or housework which is both unpaid and not considered.
