Assessing the Impact of NGO Advocacy Campaigns on World Bank Projects and Policies
Author(s)Fox, Jonathan; Brown, David
AbstractNGO advocacy campaigns have greatly influenced the World Bank’s decision to put in place a number of policies related to sustainable development. Unfortunately, the implementation of these new policies has been very limited in practice. By reviewing studies of compliance with reform policies at the World Bank, this chapter evaluates the impact of such reforms on development practice. The chapter concludes by proposing conditions under which sustainable development reforms can actually be effective.
