Abstract
The economic and ethical problems concerned with sustainable development are examined through the analysis of three ethical concepts including utilitarian ethic, discursive ethic and ethic of care. The author discusses and answers the question of whether the ethical concepts discussed improve or impair understanding of sustainability. Results show that a utilitarian ethic contributes to an awareness of the connection between environment and economic development. The remaining two concepts contribute to an awareness of the need to create better sustainability objectives.
