The aim of this chapter is to present the case that limits to growth have already been reached, that further input growth will take the planet further away from sustainability, and that we are rapidly foreclosing options for the future, possibly by overshooting limits. This chapter seeks to convince the reader of the urgent need to convert to a sustainable economy, rather than the related and equally or more important need of poverty alleviation.
