Toward a Theory of Consumption
Author(s)Miller, Daniel
AbstractConsumption is important to various social functionings, but it also represents an avenue through which individuals can express themselves and combat the contradictions of modern culture. These chapters critique prior sociological analyses of consumption represented by the works of Veblen, Bourdieu, Marcuse and Baudrillard, and then argue for a theory that vindicates consumption’s greater role in society.
