Jeremy Bentham
Author(s)Bonner, John
AbstractThis paper describes Bentham, the father of utilitarianism’s contribution to the field of economics. Although not highly regarded as an economist, he strongly influenced the early development of normative economics and a key figure in the transition form classical to neo-classical economics. His theory of psychological hedonism and his systematic application of the “greatest happiness” principle to ethics and political economy set the stage for the marginalist revolution.
