Review Essay: Amartya Sen’s Contributions to Understanding Personal Welfare
Author(s)Kiron, David
AbstractThis article lays out the major contributions of Amartya Sen during the 1970s and 1980s. It was written primarily to highlight the major critiques Sen advanced against the revealed preference theory of behavior and to explain Sen’s conception of well-being. To Sen, well-being is characterized by human advantage, within which he distinguishes between standard of living, well-being achievement, and agency success.
