Toward a Global Civil Economy (as published in A Survey of Sustainable Development)
Author(s)Bruyn, Severyn T.
AbstractThis chapter presents an action strategy to create a global civil economy. The time has come to think about a planetary self-governing system of markets, discuss the idea in UN conferences, and implement experiments in a more just economy. Many world leaders and business executives are joining with community leaders in a shared concern that the global market is a threat as well as a boon to long-term human interests. Research on the creation of a global civil economy should be on the agenda. Leaders in the United Nations are starting to play a role in conceptualizing civil self-governing markets, organizing public forums on the subject of global civil society.
