Canal Development and Intensification of Rice Cultivation in the Mekong Delta: A Case Study in Cantho Province, Vietnam
Author(s)Kono, Yasuyuki
AbstractDescribes the development process of water management and rice cultivation at a village in Vietnam’s Mekong Delta during three periods: before the unification of Vietnam in 1975, during the socialist economy period, and in the doi moi (reform) period of 1986-95. The interdependencies between canal development and the intensification of rice cultivation and between agricultural development and its institutional setting were driving factors in agricultural development as well as in social change.
