Empire of the Young: The Legacies of State Agricultural Policy on Local Capitalism and Social Support Networks in Ghana and Cote D’Ivoire
Author(s)MacLean, Lauren Morris
AbstractAfter preliminary site visits, two representative villages in Ghana and Côte d’Ivoire were selected for study, all similar in population size, agricultural history, accessibility to roads and markets, and available social services. Study results contribute to often conflicting literatures: one on agrarian capitalism and social support, emerging from the developing world; another on comparative politics concerning the nature of state and society; and a literature on the welfare state and social policy that focuses on the advanced industrialized democracies.
