Fabian Essays in Socialism
Author(s)Cole, Margaret
AbstractDiscusses the people who founded Fabian socialism and how it influenced their world, through their writings. There are references to Olivier on The Moral Basis of Socialism, Annie Besant’s contribution on Industry under Socialism, after stating defiantly that it is ‘non-Utopian’, who proceeds to sketch out a scheme for establishing socialism by County Councils taxing land values, taking over local industries and services, employing the unemployed in productive enterprises which would gradually squeeze out private competition and running them by democratic sub-committees. Also mentioned are prominent Fabians Bernard Shaw, and Beatrice Webb who provided a ‘historic’ basis of socialism.
