Economic Co-Operation between India and the United Arab Emirates in the 1990s
Author(s)Azhar, Muhammad
AbstractEconomic and other ties between India and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) predate the oil era, but these links have now reached a high level of interaction due to the UAE’s status as a major exporter and India’s position as a major market for imported oil and gas. In addition, the contribution of Indian nationals to the development of the UAE economy has been extremely significant. Indo-UAE trade has increased faster than the increase in both UAE and Indian trade with the rest of the world. Indian exports to the UAE grew rapidly in comparison with its global exports. India had a persistent trade deficit with the UAE, but not as bad as its deficits with other Gulf states, particularly Saudi Arabia.
