Abstract
China’s manned space program, inaugurated in the 1970’s and reinvigorated beginning in 1992, parallels the U.S. Apollo program of the 1960’s with its multifaceted motives, including international influence and enhancing the nation’s military posture. Both the current Chinese and US space programs exemplify Sun Zi’s concept of bearing down on the enemy, although the Chinese program has a longer view.
