The Rise of Environmentalism in Australia
Author(s)Young, Liz
AbstractThe rise of the environmentalist movement in Australia was inspired by the Great Barrier Reef campaign, which explains why it achieved popular support. Three of its most important aspects were the historical continuity between major efforts to protect the Great Barrier Reef; the substantial rise in popular concern for the environment during the 1960’s; and the campaign to protect the Great Barrier Reef within the local political context.
