Environmental Histories of South Asia: A Review Essay

AbstractPublications on the environmental conditions of South Asia have proliferated in recent years, with a strong emphasis on the legacy of the colonial experience. This review of the literature on the environmental movement and legacies in this region of the world addresses the ecological impacts of colonialism, and the responses of producers to new pressures. Additionally, the lessons from the colonial experience are addressed. Examples from India’s history as a colony illustrate the arguments.
