Abstract
The use of the concept “Europeanization” has burgeoned, though its link with party adaptation and change is still underexplored. This article concedes the difficulties, outlined recently by Peter Mair and others, of linking Europeanization and party change. However, it suggests that a more modest but systematic examination of the European Union’s (EU) impact on one party family (European Green parties) reveals both empirical and conceptual insights. Examining the Europeanization of Green parties across several dimensions (party ideology, institutions, and transnational activities), this article argues that Europeanization has accelerated the mellowing of Green ideology and “professionalization” of Green party politics.
