Abstract
The desertification of the Sudan has accelerated over the past 15 years. Major factors have been overpopulation and agricultural expansion and intensification. Since rural women in Sudan have been left behind to survive while men go to cities to look for work, they have become the primary participants in anti-desertification efforts. The complexity of the situation makes it not only resistant to immediate solution but also a top priority.
