Abstract
Discusses a select list of mostly German monographs concerning the impact of the coal industry on the German environment published in the 1980’s-90’s. The works are addressed by topic (water, air, ground, and noise pollution) and cover the 19th and 20th centuries. Much of the research focuses on 19th-century developments, particularly the rise of the chemical industry, rather than the post-1945 period, when systematic efforts to confront the pollution problems first began to occur.
