The War on Terrorism: Its Moral Justification and Limits
Author(s)Simpson, Peter
AbstractHere the author lays out his assertion that terrorism is evil. He stresses the importance of agreeing upon a universal definition of terrorism, and to address the notion of “state terrorism” which has caused much confusion. He claims that what is known as state terrorism should be described with different terminology, that it is not terrorism but possibly tyranny, despotism, police brutality, etc. The author acknowledges that peace loving countries must do something about the evil of terrorism, but warns against the use of more evil against evil and effectively sinking to the level of the terrorists. In this view, the author reviews the actions of the United States government in reacting to terrorism.
