Abstract
Napoleon III’s reputation as a good statesman is undeserved. In foreign policy he frequently conspired with foreign diplomats against his own government. His plans for the reorganization of Europe were not only illogical for Europe, but detrimental to France as well. His ultimate success – the destruction of the European Concert – eventually hurt France and brought about his own downfall.
