Dust to Dust: A User’s Guide to Local Archives in Mali
Author(s)Mann, Gregory
AbstractLocal archives were created at the cercle (district) level in French West Africa during the colonial era. Two of these in southern Mali, while in varying degrees of order or disarray when visited in 1996 and 1998, contain otherwise scarce documentary evidence on local conditions, as well as correspondence between local officials, materials absent in the national archives.
