Family and Race
Author(s)Gordon, Linda
AbstractUsing the 1904 Clifton-Morenci, Arizona racially-charged incident surrounding the placement of White orphans with Mexican foster families, the author examines women’s roles in the construction and defense of racial lines. The author argues that Arizona orphan story is “simultaneously an allegory that symbolizes our legacy of race hatred and a parable that offers lessons for reducing hatred.”
