Filling in the Picture: Visual Culture
Author(s)Roeder, George H.
AbstractDespite problems of definition, author makes some general observations about twenty-five years of historical studies of American visual culture. His examples come mostly from historical studies of visual imagery in twentieth-century American culture though he incorporates some scholarship on earlier periods and other visual phenomena. Culture is seen in all its forms, particularly its visual commoditization and realism.
