Presents a case for the inclusion of a feminist point of view in the study of Caribbean history, using the journal of Maria Nugent, wife of the governor of Jamaica in 1801-05, to illustrate the usefulness of such a viewpoint. Elements of race, gender, and class are evident in Nugent’s journal.
