AbstractThe paper is a diary the author wrote while taking part in the 1958 Referendum campaign in Upper Volta, West Africa, after which the Upper Volta became an autonomous republic. The author wrote the diary with the aim to demonstrate how and why he and others who opposed the Referendum were defeated, as well as to contribute to the continuing struggle.
