Museums as Institutions for Personal Learning
Author(s)Falk, John H.
AbstractMany people learn much of what they know outside of the traditional confines of the educational system. For this reason, museums have often provided dynamic and engaging environments for unconventional forms of learning, as they enable visitors to interact with topics that are meaningful and important to them. However, museums’ educational value and potential have frequently been overlooked. Consequently, the author offers examples of the significance museums play in education with examples of success stories around the world, in order to emphasize their use in a knowledge economy.
