Preface to the Issue America’s Museums
Author(s)Graubard, Stephen R.
AbstractIn this preface, the author seeks to explain the function of the issue of Daedalus on America’s Museums as a way to understand how American museums have changed over the past one hundred years. He addresses questions concerning how and why museums have transformed over time, looking at specific social and political movements of the time. America as a nation is reconceived in its history, through the eyes of the popularized museum lens.
