Islam and the West: Clash of Civilizations?
Author(s)Robinson, Francis
AbstractReviews the clash of Islam and Western civilization from 1798, when Napoleon invaded Egypt, to 2001, when agents of Osama Bin Laden’s al-Qaeda attacked the World Trade Center in New York City. Islamic revivalism was expressed in many different ways and in various social, economic, cultural, and political circumstances. Topics include the Wahhabi movement in Arabia, the Deoband mandressa reforms of South Asia, and the activities of Islamist modernists.
