Outpost of a World Religion: The Bahá’í Faith in Australia 1920-47
Author(s)Hassall, Graham
AbstractFocuses on the establishment of the Bahá’í faith in Australia from 1920 to 1947. During this period, the small Bahá’í: community gradually developed its own administrative structures and more clearly distinguished itself from the variety of spiritualist movements that supplied its initial membership. A “preoccupation with legalism,” ongoing tensions between the Sydney and Adelaide communities, and a tendency to adopt regional rather than global perspectives were among the reasons for the modest growth of the movement.
