This chapter tries to expose the prospects of global history. Its main conclusion is that the urge to see the world as one has a long history, and so the attempts to develop global history as a discipline. According to the author, the best chance for global history lies in its becoming just another among the many fields of history: as another way of regrouping interdisciplinary and cross-cultural research, global history would not necessarily replace nor even challenge historical specialization. Pursuing these modest, limited goals will add more to the discipline that attempt to out it in the basis of the pyramid.
