Abstract
Evaluating the Guilded Age, when American economic interests rested upon the open door policy that made international commerce feasible, is useful in a focused examination of the evolution of the state of economic history with regard to early American imperialism. Such an appraisal demonstrates how students of U.S. foreign relations have confronted one of the most controversial topics and have contended with one another over the past thirty-five years.
