The United States and Spain in 1822
Author(s)Robertson, William Spence
AbstractThe early decades of the nineteenth century witnessed the states of Spain in America splitting from Spain and declaring their independence. The government of the United States tried to remain neutral in the struggle between Spain and her colonies. This article examines the action taken by the United States in 1822 with regard to the recognition of the independence of the states of Spain in America.
