Abstract
Discusses Cambodian neutrality and US-Cambodian relations during 1958-59. Cambodian Leader Norodom Sihanouk blamed the United States and its allies for the hostile actions of Thailand and South Vietnam culminating in the 1959 attempt by Dap Chhuon to overthrow the Cambodian government. Sihanouk used the threat of closer relations with Communist China as a lever against the United States. The inability of the Americans to form a coherent US policy or control the actions of South Vietnam confirmed Cambodian suspicions and adversely affected relations.
