AbstractExamines United Nations (UN) peacekeeping operations and humanitarian interventions and reform proposals for the UN as a whole and for the Security Council designed to improve their response to challenges; includes case studies of Bosnia, Cambodia, Haiti, Rwanda, and Somalia and historical perspective on the UN’s evolution since its founding in 1945. Describes former UN Secretary-General Boutros Boutros-Ghali 1992 “An Agenda for Peace” which defined four categories of UN activities: preventive diplomacy, peacemaking, peace building, and peacekeeping.
