Saints and Heroes
Author(s)Urmson, J. O.
AbstractComplicates moral categories beyond right, wrong and permissible. Argues for a fourth category: supererogatory or heroic action. The author argues that the categories of duties, indifferent actions, and wrongdoing is inadequate and that saintly and heroic actions are examples of actions that transcend these classifications. The actions of saint and heroes go beyond the moral expectations of the current forms of utilitarianism.
