Abstract
The central focus of this essay is on the relations, and especially the conflicts, between deep ecology and ecofeminism. These environmental philosophies are predominant among a new set of philosophies that try to overcome the many difficulties they see with inherited perspective such as utilitarianism and Kantian-based deontologism. Deep ecology and ecofeminism share many criticism of the dominant paradigms in ethics, but they disagree about many basic philosophical issues and practical strategies. This essay discusses the central points of disagreement and concludes that the case for ecofeminism is more compelling than those that have been made for deep ecology.
