Values Gone Wild
Author(s)Rolston, Holmes III
AbstractHumans should not view wilderness as a resource for the production of human satisfaction. Rather, wild nature is a source of human value, as well as the place where we encounter similar beings (“neighbors”) and different beings (“aliens”) whom we recognize as the possessors of intrinsic value. Wilderness is valuable because it is a “storied achievement” important to human life and culture.
